Course description: Prealgebra is a preparatory course for Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. This course will introduce the student to the different types of numbers, basic problem solving principles, fractions, polynomials, linear equations decimals, percents, graphs, formulas, and constants.

Course expectations and grading: There will be weekly homework that may take up to 4 hours per week to complete. Tests will be given periodically.

Algebra 1

Course description: Algebra 1 is a preparatory course for Geometry and Algebra II. This course will introduce the student to factoring, polynomials, the quadratic equation, advanced problem solving principles, advanced linear equations, square roots and radicals, math models, and rational expressions.

Geometry

Course description: Geometry is a preparatory course for Algebra II. This course will introduce the student to points, planes, quadrilaterals, triangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, geometric solids, geometric proofs, congruency, similarity, and logic.

Algebra 2

Course description: We will use Dave Ramsey’s Foundations in Personal Finance for High School as our curriculum. It meets standards and benchmarks in all 50 states for high school consumer math credit and meets all Jump$tart National Standards. We will cover the following topics:

    • Bargain Shopping

Course expectations and grading: This is a hands on project based class based in real world math applications. There will be weekly reading and project assignments to be completed at home. Students are responsible for class participation, keeping up with homework, and turning in work for grading. Ten points will be deducted per week for late assignments unless a parent excuse has been given.
