2014-2015 Registration Information

Welcome to Star Academy!  We are looking forward to the 2014-2015 school year.  As you look at our registration information please be sure to read carefully our expectations and rules to be sure they will be a good fit for you and your family. 

Registration Fee:

$75 + first installment of tuition and one time fees after 8/1/2014

Feel free to direct any of your homeschool friends or groups that might be interested in learning more about Star Academy classes to this site. 

Every student (and a parent) attending Star Academy Class Day must complete all pages of the registration. 
A few things we would like to point out:


  • Parents will sign up for at least two full days (either 2 full days, 4 mornings or 4 afternoons) to stay and monitor the study hall & student lounge.
  • Parents that want to opt-out of study hall duty must pay $60 ($30 per day) to Star Academy.  This money will be used to hire a paid parent substitute to serve in your place.
  • You will need to do a separate packet for each student attending Star Academy Class Day.
  • When filling out the family information and student information forms there is a scroll bar on the form page (not the usual one on the right - this one is just to the left of that one). You will need to enter things all the way down until you see the submit button. If you do not click submit on EACH page, your registration will not be complete and your student will not be enrolled in classes.
  • You must click submit at the end of each page.
  • PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY ... You are signing these forms digitally (which is the same as signing paper) and will be held to what you sign.
  • There is one form to be filled out on paper  the "Registration/Payment" form that breaks down the cost of each class and tells how much is owed.  This is to be submitted with your checks.
  • If you want to figure out exactly what will be due on registration day, go to the Course Fees page.  There you will find every class and what each monthly charge is, and if there are any lab fees, book fees, copy fees, etc.
  • Due at registration: registration fee [$35 (by June 2), $60 (between June 3 and August 1) or $75 (after August 1)] , 1 part of the annual tuition for each class, plus any lab/book/copy fees.  Please make out separate checks: One to Star Academy Class Day for the registration fee, and one to each teacher for their tuition and fees.

Please fill out all but the right column on the form "Class Registration & Payment". You may verify the correct payment to be made with Joycelyn Simas or Sherri Hein at staracademyclassday@gmail.com.

Turn in your checks & the completed form on a class day, at the meet the teacher night or mail  to:

If you do not want to do this ahead of time, or it's too overwhelming to think about, all of this can be done at the meet the teacher meeting, where you will have assistance with each step of the process.

To add or drop a class after registration has been completed:

  1. Download and print the add/drop document add/drop form.
  2. Fill out the form and mail it to Joycelyn Simas, the treasurer along with items in #3.
  3. What to include in your envelope to Joycelyn:
  1. the completed form
  2. the $5 add/drop fee - a check to Star Academy
  3. a check to the teacher of the class you are adding to your student's schedule, with all the appropriate 1-time fees added. If you have a question about how much is owed, feel free to ask any administration member.

If you are adding or dropping 1 or more classes, only one form is needed. There is a $5 charge to add or drop classes. This is an admin fee and it is $5 per form, not per class. This fee is to hopefully encourage families to think carefully before adding or dropping classes, and to do so only once, if at all. The add/drop fee goes to Star Academy and not to administration members personally. Funds for Star Academy are used for Star Academy classes and the running of the program.

As an example, if you are adding 2 classes and dropping 1 class, there is a place on the form to do all 3 classes, and there is only one $5 fee. However, if you add 2 classes today, you would fill out a form to add these 2 classes and pay $5. If in 3 weeks you decide to drop a class, another form will need to be filled out, and another $5 fee paid. Each form that is sent should come with a $5 check made out to Star Academy Class Day.

Policy concerning dropping a class:
Please register for classes carefully. Our teachers are making a commitment to teach your children for a full school year and you need to make the same commitment. Registration fees, any tuition fees, and supply fees you pay are nonrefundable.

There is only a 6-week drop period. If you do not drop a class before the drop period ends, you are obligated for the entire year’s tuition, even if you are paying out the yearly fee on a monthly basis. Each class’ tuition is a yearly tuition commitment that we allow parents to pay by the month. Dropping a class after the drop period has ended does not release the parent from paying for the rest of the year. 
The 6-week drop period ends at the end of class day on the 6th class day of the year, which will be Tuesday September 23, 2014 at 3:30 p.m.

Of course, there are always those extreme exceptions to any rule that a family might encounter during the year. 
So, please discuss these issues with the Star Academy Administrators.
