Course Description:
This is a different approach to teaching history. We will be using Our Land Publications. My Texas presents the history of the Lone Star State in a student-friendly, informal style that does not intimidate students. A special effort is made to relate events in Texas history to the broader history of the United States. Events are seen as living and potentially life-changing experiences from which we can all learn. The people whose experiences and decisions changed our state and nation come to life as we read their stories as they unfold. My Texas is a geographically balanced study that recognizes America's multi-cultural, multi-ethnic heritage and geographical diversity. Our Land Publications curriculum integrates textbook contents into a newspaper format. Newspaper-like headlines and articles highlight each issue. Historical events are presented as though they just took place. People are seen as living and real. History comes to life on a scale that students find interesting. I will provide the “newspapers”; no textbook is required.
